Overcoming Sadness Can Be A Challenge

Tricks for Overcoming Sadness

My father was an interesting man. He always seemed to have a positive attitude about things. At least that is the way I remember him. He was all about overcoming sadness.

One of his favorite sayings was, “Smile and the world smiles with you, cry and you cry alone.” I must have been prone to being sad about things as a kid because I can hear him saying that to me over and over. And the advice has had a real impact on my life.

I like to think of myself as the happiest man I know. Sure, things happen to me that are not always great. But I do not spend time being sad. I shake them off and go on with life. But overcoming sadness can be difficult for some people. That is perfectly understandable. Overcoming sadness can take some effort.

Smile

One of the fundamentals of my coaching is happiness. Happiness is a necessary component to success. I frequently work with people on overcoming sadness. I understand how difficult it seems. But there are things you can do to help. One of them is very simple. Smile.

I know that seems difficult when you are sad. But smiling has been shown to make you feel better, even when you are feeling sad. I know that when I smile, I feel a connection to other people. I can’t tell you why. But it works.

Infect Someone

Smiles are infectious, too. Your smile is going to rub off on those around you. Being around happy people will go a long way to overcoming sadness, too. People like to be around happy people. People do not enjoy being around sadness. I know there is a saying that misery loves company. But that doesn’t mean people like being around miserable people.

I have been working with people on overcoming sadness for many years. It is one of my goals in life to help as many people as I can in overcoming sadness and finding happiness.
