A Coach Helps

Many of the professionals I coach complain of burnout when we first get started. Highly educated, self-disciplined and motivated all of their lives, they are beginning to look around and wonder if it is all worth it. If you feel that way, you should understand that it is perfectly understandable.

Let me assure you that after practicing law for about 35 years I felt tired. I felt like I was in a rut. I am successful. I am recognized as a very effective trial lawyer. But that didn’t seem to be giving me any solace. The highs just weren’t as high. It is not that there were “lows.” It was more of a flat feeling of just going through the motions.

Burnout Is Understandable

As a coach, I now work with people who are facing those very issues. My experience in conquering the burnout syndrome allows me to effectively guide my clients through that dangerous labyrinth.

The problem with burnout is you think there is no ready answer. In some ways, you want to go in another direction. But a lot of times your checkbook tells you that you can’t afford to make any career changes. When that happens, you begin to feel trapped. I call that being a hostage of your own success.

Finding Your Solution

As a coach, I work with you to help you find the best answer for you. Being a coach is not about telling you what to do. It is about working together to see what works best for you. The possibilities really are endless. It is just having someone (a coach) who will help you explore those possibilities.

Your friends and family are always there to give you their well-intentioned advice. A coach is there to help you find the answer that you want, not what others think is right for you.

To Change or Not To Change

That answer is not always to change professions, although it might be. I know that I still practice law and love doing it. Being a coach fits perfectly into my scenario. I went from having one profession that was no longer meeting my emotional needs to having two professions that complement one another.

I am not suggesting you become a coach. That was right for me. But I am telling you that I can help you find the path that is right for you. If you would be open to a conversation about what coaching entails and how it might be able to help you, contact me.
