The Live Beyond Fear Project

The Live Beyond Fear Project is something I have been working on for years. Admittedly I only recently found the suitable name. I have to thank Lethia Owens and my wife Rebecca who both contributed to the concept and the project.

For the last four decades I have worked hand-in-hand with people who are in the grips of fear. They were people who had serious legal problems. Some of them had been injured or lost a loved one in a terrible and tragic accident.

Some of them were wrongfully accused of a crime. While so many others sat across a desk from me in tears after being abandoned by someone who had promised to love them for eternity.

It is understandable that these people would be experiencing fear. They wondered what the future would hold for them. And one-by-one I worked with these people to not only give them the best legal representation I could but to help them learn to live beyond fear.

As I got older and met more people in various walks of life one thing became evident. Fear is rampant in the world. Everybody had it in one form or another. No one lives without some fear.

That caused me to start doing research on the subject. Fear is natural. It has been passed down through the generations of our ancestors from as far back as the cavemen. And it is essential to survival.

But it can be mastered. Learning to live beyond fear is something that all people can do. But it takes some work.

I use a three step method. The first is to educate. I help my audiences and clients learn about fear. What is it? Where does it come from? What parts of the brain kick into action when we are in fear?

By learning this you can learn to recognize when you are in fear in any given situation. That is important because the sooner you recognize it the sooner you can take the next step.

The next step is to explore. Find out what it is you are really afraid of in the situation at hand. We are not always afraid of the same thing. But fear has an impact on our performance, productivity and personal satisfaction.

The sooner you can actually identify the source of your fear the sooner you are able to live beyond it. Psychologists tell us that there are five basic roots of all fear in human beings. All other fears come from these five.

Most of the fears we have are learned or manufactured. They are not really something to fear. But they are fears nonetheless. And when you really explore the fear you soon realize that you can live beyond fear.

The final step is teaching you how to expand your comfort zone. There are plenty of people asking you to get out of your comfort zone. That may be great advice for an athlete or body builder. The truth is people do not like to operate outside of their comfort zone and won’t do so on a continued basis. They will, when the going gets tough, retreat to their comfort zone. That is perfectly understandable.

What I do is help you understand how to expand your comfort zone. Those things that used to be “outside” of your comfort zone are now conveniently located within it. When you are in your expanded comfort zone you are operating at your peak.

So my Live Beyond Fear Project is all about helping as many people as I can understand how wonderful, happy and healthy their lives can be. I want to take this opportunity in my life to spread the word. This comes at a time when our world seems to be coming apart around us.

I can think of no better time.
