I Call Bullshit!

Is This the Real Life?

People always ask speakers what it is they speak about. Speakers then rattle off some well-crafted short “elevator” speech.

That is great for those speakers who are out there busting their butts trying to make a living in the business of speaking. Fortunately, I have a profession that allows me to speak to organizations when I choose.

Scoot your chair a little closer. I want to let you in on something. I am living the life I want to live. I have been living it for years. It is great. It is fun. It is exciting. It is challenging, and it is rewarding.

Are you living that kind of life?

Is This Just Fantasy?

Here is the question I have for you. If you could be anything at all, any professional, any job, any position, what would it be?

I’m not talking about what you thought you wanted to be when you were four years old. I mean right now. What do you want to be doing?

Before we go on I have to ask you if you have ever seen the movie “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days?” If not you need to know about the “Bullshit” game.

It was a card game in the movie. In it, people would declare what their cards were. If the other person wanted to challenge them, they would shout “Bullshit!” That was how you called someone’s bluff in the game.

So, hang on here. For about 80% of you who gave an answer as to what you would really like to be, I cry out, “Bullshit!” That’s right. Bullshit.

You see, most of you have never put in even a day’s efforts to be that. It is just something you think about like an escape fantasy.

Give It Up

So, give up that fantasy because it is actually making you unhappy. You spend your time wishing you could do it and bemoaning fact you can’t.

Let’s go back to the question, then. What is it you really want to be? What is it you really want to do.

Then ask yourself why some people are doing what they want to do and being what they want to be? I know I am.

I am because I am bold enough to just do it. I want to be a professional speaker, so I do it. I want to write a blog, so I do it. I want to be a coach to people who want to improve their lives, I do it.

I do it because I know in the final analysis it does not matter how happy I have made you, it is important that I have been true to myself. I will never be able to control what others think about me, my life, my skills, weaknesses, habits or strengths.

In the end you will have to answer to yourself. Did you live the life you wanted to live, or did you live the life others planned for you?

Done Waiting?

How long are you going to wait? How much time do you have left to live the life you really want to live?

Have the courage and the confidence to start now. You will never get there until you leave here.
