Opportunity is Everywhere

Opportunity Outlook

Being a speaker is a lot of fun. It gives me a great opportunity to meet new people and to introduce them to different concepts from a different point of view. A speaker can inspire, entertain and educate all at the same time. I look at being a speaker as more than just giving a speech, I look at it as an opportunity to start a dialogue.

If you are a subscriber to my blog, Twitter account or Facebook then you know I spend a lot of time talking about opportunity. I even have a hashtag #oppoprtunityoutlook. I feel that everything we encounter is an opportunity of some sort.

If nothing else, it is an opportunity to learn or experience something new. A speaker gets to have that opportunity each time he or she gets in front of an audience. What I give to my audiences is the benefit of the knowledge and experience I have gained in my life and point out to them that if a guy like me can achieve success, they can too.

I have made too many mistakes in my life to even begin to list them. Each one of them was an opportunity to learn something. But I did not always learn the first time. In fact, I repeated some of my mistakes many times. The reason I did that is I did not see them as an opportunity to learn. I foolishly looked at them as mistakes of others. In my child-like wisdom of my early years I saw those disasters as the results of someone else’s bad behavior or judgment, not mine.

Rather than take the opportunity to look at the things that went wrong and ask my part in it, I was always looking for the opportunity to shift the blame.

I can’t point to the exact time my thinking shifted. I learn more about myself each day. I simply know that when I started to look at each event in my life as not good or bad, but simply as an event, a whole new vista opened up for me. As a speaker I try to convey that message to people. Right now in my life, being a speaker is a wonderful opportunity for me to try and reach people who may be going through those tough times of fear, self-doubt and lack of confidence.

I just wanted to take the opportunity to share this with you.
